Submission Guidelines for Teatime History
Written on
I founded Teatime History in June 2021 to provide a reliable resource for history enthusiasts.
I noticed a surge of dubious claims and conspiracy theories on Medium that misrepresent the essence of history.
Today, we are excited to invite new contributions from writers interested in authentic historical storytelling. To be featured in Teatime History, please adhere to the following guidelines.
We welcome your insights, research, analyses, and listicles, as long as they are supported by credible evidence. Historians often engage in healthy debates over differing viewpoints, and we look forward to your unique perspective.
While we strive to avoid strong ideological positions, we respect each author’s interpretation of historical events. It is crucial to capture historical nuances in the narratives we publish. Ideological biases have led to a decline in faith in historical accuracy, giving rise to conspiracy theorists and opportunists profiting from misinformation.
At Teatime History, our commitment lies in objectivity.
For instance, we encourage discussions on the controversial theories surrounding the destruction of the Library of Alexandria. However, conspiracy theories suggesting alien ancestry for Pharaohs or scandalous rumors about semi-legendary figures are not welcome.
With this in mind, we invite your contributions.
Submission Rules and Guidelines
- You must be a Medium member and part of the Medium Partner Program.
- All submissions must align with Medium’s Ad-Free Policy, Content Guidelines, Curation Guidelines, and Rules. Please familiarize yourself with these before submitting your draft.
- Drafts should have a minimum reading time of 4 minutes. Based on our experience, long-form content tends to perform best, so feel free to submit quality stories even if they exceed 10 minutes (approximately 2500 words).
- Only unpublished drafts will be accepted.
- Ensure that sources are cited at the end of your story. The reliability of sources is crucial. Alt-history and fictional works are not permitted.
- Submissions should be proofread and correctly formatted.
- All images must be copyright-free, and their sources must be acknowledged.
- A featured image with a caption is required. Every image in the story must also have captions.
- One of your tags must be “History,” and you may choose four additional tags.
- AI-generated content is prohibited. All submissions must be authored by humans, as our readers seek your insights.
- Before selecting a topic, check if it has been recently addressed in the publication. If it has, your story should build upon it or provide a new perspective.
- You may withdraw your story after submission if you change your mind, but once published, you cannot remove it from the publication.
- True crime narratives are not accepted.
- Submissions regarding Natural History, animal history, the earth, dinosaurs, and other prehistoric creatures are encouraged.
- If you enjoy visiting historical sites, feel free to share your travel history experiences.
Guidelines for Success
We aim for your articles to attract the maximum number of views. Here are some tips for success in this publication:
- Craft a compelling headline. While this may seem obvious, it is worth emphasizing.
- Topics related to prehistory, ancient, and medieval history resonate well with readers.
- Engage with fellow writers. Be sure to read and support their stories within the publication.
- The selection of appropriate images is beneficial. Explore open image sources like Wikimedia Commons and copyright-free museum collections.
# Medium Boost Program
Teatime History is now part of Medium’s Boost Program. This means we are among the select few publications that can nominate your stories for enhanced distribution.
Your submissions can gain additional visibility, helping you attract more readers and earn more through the Medium Partner Program.
How do we nominate stories for Boost?
Your story must meet the criteria specified by Medium.
Since we are a publication focused on historical topics, we expect your writing to emphasize historical details. The aim is for readers to feel enriched by their reading experience, so it is essential to cite trustworthy sources.
The chances of receiving a boost increase when you blend engaging storytelling with robust evidence. Below are a few examples of previously boosted stories that illustrate the type of content we look to nominate:
- Who Were the Real Philistines That the Bible Talks About?

We invite you to join us. Please comment below the article with your username and a sample of your historical writing (it doesn’t have to be on Medium) if you’re interested in writing for Teatime History. Keep in mind that we won’t accept writers who are not inclined towards history or those who use AI for their writing.
Thus, submitting a previous writing sample is essential.
