Elevate Your 2022: 10 Transformative Strategies for Success
Written on
Future Self Vision
To achieve happiness, it’s essential to set ambitious goals that energize your thoughts and inspire your aspirations. Andrew Carnegie encapsulated this idea well. A notable example is Matthew McConaughey, who, when asked about his hero, revealed that it was his future self ten years down the line—an individual he envisioned achieving tenfold success in all areas of life.
In a world of nearly 8 billion people, I’ve spent years pondering how to attain more, do less, and find joy along the way. I’ve discovered that the larger the goal, the simpler the journey becomes. This may seem paradoxical, but as you focus on a bold vision, the right people, opportunities, and circumstances tend to align themselves. The key is to trust in this process (refer to #6 Faith) before you decide to walk away. For 2022, aim for a tenfold increase in your aspirations rather than settling for small, incremental changes.
Fitness and Wellbeing
As Jim Rohn wisely stated, "Your body is the only place you have to live." I am a fan of acronyms, which have been instrumental in my memory and learning for the past 25 years. The second 'F' in my plan for 2022 is crucial for enabling all other goals. This principle has been a consistent part of my previous strategies and will continue to be vital in the future.
Sleep: A regular sleep pattern is essential for both mental and physical fitness. Aim for 7 to 9 hours of quality sleep each night, ensuring you get enough REM and deep sleep. I follow the 5 AM club philosophy, so I usually go to bed by 10 PM, which allows me to enjoy peaceful mornings filled with activities like Wim Hof breathing, meditation, fresh coffee, journaling, and reading. By 7 AM, I feel accomplished and ready for the day.
Exercise: I cherish the feeling of being physically fit. Find activities that you enjoy that get you moving—whether it's doing squats by the bedside, stretching, or taking a walk. At 46, I’m lucky to engage in various physical activities, including martial arts and cycling, which keep me active daily.
Nutrition and Hydration: Eating as close to natural sources as possible is crucial for health. Services like Hello Fresh simplify this by delivering fresh ingredients and recipes to your door. Start your day with a large glass of water and maintain hydration throughout the day.
Self-Care: Take moments to breathe and tune into yourself without distractions. A minute of rhythmic breathing can refresh your mind anytime.
Growth Mindset: We often abandon our goals at the first obstacle. When negative thoughts creep in, remind yourself that you might not be skilled at something—yet! Consistency is the secret to mastery. Start small; for example, buy a pair of trainers today and walk to the nearest lamppost tomorrow.
Family Matters
Michael J. Fox once said, "Family is not an important thing, it’s everything." In coaching sessions, I frequently ask clients about their life priorities, and "family" is the common response. However, when reviewing their calendars, family time often isn’t prioritized. In 2022, I intend to schedule dedicated time for family and significant others weekly.
Friendship and Support
Warren Buffett emphasizes the importance of surrounding yourself with friends who inspire you. You become the average of the five people you spend the most time with, as Jim Rohn famously noted. For 2022, choose your friends and network wisely. Identify those who energize you and spend less time with those who drain your energy.
Embracing Joy
Elbert Hubbard aptly remarked, "Do not take life too seriously." The past year has been challenging, but it’s essential to carve out time for fun experiences. Prioritize creating joyful memories with friends and family, even if it means postponing larger trips. In 2022, I plan to embrace one new experience each month that brings laughter and joy.
Faith and Belief
Martin Luther King, Jr. stated, "Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase." Believing in something greater than ourselves can simplify life. In 2022, I aim to delve deeper into philosophical writings to explore our existence and purpose.
Financial Investment
Investing in yourself is the best return on investment. Whether through learning, coaching, or mentorship, these investments yield the highest benefits. In 2021, my stock investments brought significant returns, and I plan to continue this trend in 2022.
Mentorship and Guidance
John Wooden said, "A good coach can change a game. A great coach can change a life." Seeking a mentor can provide invaluable insights and pathways to achieving your goals. In 2022, I will continue to surround myself with inspiring figureheads.
Emotional Awareness
As Joseph LeDoux noted, "Emotions are a critical source of information for learning." Our feelings influence our actions and results, yet many of us overlook this connection. I aim to enhance my emotional literacy in 2022, starting by expanding my vocabulary to better articulate my emotions.
Finding Freedom
Eckhart Tolle stated that true freedom comes from non-resistance and non-attachment. Often, we waste energy worrying about the past or future. In 2022, I will focus on minimizing distractions from technology and social media, allowing for greater peace and purpose.
