Embracing ADHD: A Unique Journey Through Daily Life

Understanding a Typical Day with ADHD
Have you ever shared something that feels ordinary to you, only to be met with bewildered looks from others? If so, welcome to my world! I thought it would be interesting to share what my typical Saturday looks like—though, spoiler alert, it’s not really a “schedule” in the traditional sense.
Can you maintain intense focus for 14 hours straight?
Saturday Routine
8–9 am:
I wake up after a few hours of sleep—check the end of this article for specifics. I don’t use iPhone alarms or any jarring sounds. My dreams rarely occur; it’s mostly just darkness. Once I regain awareness, my mind recalls what I intended to remember before drifting off (more on that later).
I savor a leisurely morning. After opening my eyes, I mentally run through the day without an established plan. I brainstorm ideas and tasks I want to tackle, often inspired by notes from the previous day.
My morning rituals include:
- Drinking 1–2 glasses of water
- Taking vitamins
- Visiting the bathroom
- Starting my Jura E80 coffee machine
- Frothing oat milk in the Nespresso Aeroccino for iced coffee
- Getting two ice cubes
- Brewing a strong black coffee (200 ml)
- Playing a special morning playlist filled with jazz or Miyazaki film scores
- Reading on my Kindle
- Reviewing daily highlights on my iPad using a favorite app
- Scanning emails from my preferred morning service and choosing articles to read
Once I complete my morning routine and enjoy quality time with my partner, I start to feel a surge of energy.
Superpowers:
- High energy
9–12 am:
This period is a blend of content creation and idea development—tweets, Instagram posts, TikToks, LinkedIn articles, podcasts, and videos. I dedicate 30–60 minutes to planning a week’s worth of Twitter content using a helpful tool.
I might already be on my third cup of coffee by now! My workspace varies; I might sit at a table or move to different spots depending on the situation. I don’t need complete silence to concentrate; I can tune out background noise and refocus quickly.
Routines:
- Sitting still with my computer
- Spending time with my partner
Superpowers:
- Hyperfocus
- High energy
- Creativity
- Problem-solving
12–15 pm:
I often forget to eat lunch or drink water, as I don’t usually feel hungry. By this time, I’ve typically finished creating content and posted it. Planning one or two weeks ahead is enjoyable for me, as is creating content spontaneously.
During this time, I continue writing, tweeting, and engaging with my audience on social media.
Routines:
- Focusing on 1–2 priority tasks
- Using my Xiaomi tablet to jot down notes throughout the day
Superpowers:
- Hyperfocus
- High energy
- Creativity
- Problem-solving
15–18 pm:
By now, I’ve consumed four or five cups of coffee—not to stay awake, but because it helps calm me. This time is usually reserved for brainstorming, designing graphics, and conducting online research. I often tackle topics of interest, such as “Why do stars flicker?” and synthesize information from various sources.
If I feel particularly energized, I might live stream or record a podcast.
Routines:
- Continuing to create and research
- Spending time with my partner
Superpowers:
- Hyperfocus
- High energy
- Creativity
- Problem-solving
- Resilience
18–19 pm:
I usually have a meal with my partner. Our engagement varies, but we always opt for healthy greens and salads. Cooking can sometimes feel like a chore, but we make it enjoyable by dancing and singing along to music.
Routines:
- Eating together at the table
- Avoiding TV during meals
Superpowers:
- Curiosity
- Charisma
19–22 pm:
I shift to the sofa area with my computer and blanket while my partner watches YouTube or Netflix. I put on my Bose QC 35 II headphones and listen to binaural beats for focus. This is when I refine my digital products and continue writing.
In the evenings, I often feel more relaxed, even with high energy levels. I engage with audiences from the U.S. during this time, as they tend to be more active.
Routines:
- Working from the sofa
Superpowers:
- High energy
- Hyperfocus
- Problem-solving
22 pm:
When my partner heads to bed, I take my magnesium and zinc supplements. I grab a blanket, play my sleep playlist from Spotify, and tuck my partner in.
Superpowers:
- Empathy
22–01 am:
The night continues, and my energy remains high. I use this quiet time to review my notes and ideas in my favorite app, Roam Research. This tool has been transformative for me in organizing thoughts and ideas.
During these hours, I also engage with interesting tweets, draft new ones, and catch up on various online activities.
Superpowers:
- High energy
- Hyperfocus
01 am:
As I prepare for bed, I’m not thrilled about it. I brush my teeth, check social media, and lie in bed, visualizing my goals and reciting a mantra that helps me unwind.
Routines:
- Reciting my evening mantra
- Visualizing my goals
- Meditating on ideas
Superpowers:
- High energy... and a bit of sleep!
And so the cycle repeats. Hope you enjoyed this glimpse into my life.
