I've previously highlighted 14 new features in this update, but there’s more to explore!
Section 1.1: Exciting Features from iOS 17.1 Beta 1
When it comes to iOS 17.1 Beta 1, the excitement mirrors that of the original iOS 17. Below are seven additional features introduced in later beta versions:
Enhanced StandBy Always-On Display
In iOS 17.0, users could only choose between Always-On and normal modes for the StandBy display. With the new update, you now have three options:
- Automatically: The display turns off when not in use and the room is dim.
- After 20 Seconds: The display will shut off after 20 seconds of inactivity.
- Never: The display remains on continuously (available only on iPhone 14 and 15 Pro models).
Access this feature through Settings > StandBy > Display.
Album Selection for Wallpaper Shuffle
A long-awaited feature finally arrives: you can now select any photo album for wallpaper shuffling when using Photo Shuffle.
Action Button Modifications in Pocket
The Action Button, a fresh feature on all iPhone 15 models, faced issues of accidental presses in pockets. With iOS 17.1, actions like Camera, Flashlight, and Voice Memo won’t activate while the phone is in your pocket, ensuring the Mute and Shortcut functions remain available. Additionally, activating the Action Button requires a longer press when the device is pocketed.
Updated Action Button Shortcut Functionality
Users have found creative ways to use the Action Button to run a folder of shortcuts. In iOS 17.1, the Action Button will now display the first eight shortcuts from a folder, simplifying access.
Haptic Feedback in Messages
A subtle yet impactful addition: long-pressing the ? icon in Messages now provides haptic feedback, enhancing the user experience.
Louder Text Tone Settings
Users will notice an increase in the volume of Text Tones in Settings > Sounds & Haptics, making alerts more audible.
Home App Enhancements
The Home app now supports locking and unlocking Matter locks, expanding its functionality.
