Chapter 1: Embracing the Moment

In this edition of my Monday morning newsletter, Weekly Wonderings, I aim to make your start to the week more delightful! If you enjoy what you read, consider subscribing.

What’s been on my mind lately 🧠

I just returned from an incredible 10-day adventure in Nicaragua alongside a dear friend. This experience left me overwhelmed with gratitude and reignited my passion for life.

During my stay, I engaged in just five activities: eating, surfing, sleeping, reading, and attempting to communicate with locals using my limited Spanish. There was something uniquely freeing about simplifying my communication to a child-like level. I discovered that using enthusiastic gestures and exclaiming "muy bien!!" can be quite an effective way to connect with others, especially when paired with a big smile that suggests there’s something 'special' about you.

This trip was particularly significant for me as I made the bold choice to leave my laptop behind and refrain from work for the entire duration. While this decision initially felt daunting, it turned out to be immensely rewarding. I now feel more playful, joyful, and alive than I have in years. It’s as though my soul has been recharged, transforming me into a better version of myself.

What brings me the greatest joy is that by consciously choosing to do nothing work-related, I have paradoxically moved closer to my goals. Since my return, numerous opportunities have arisen, all because I finally stepped aside and allowed life to unfold. I replaced my exhausted, needy energy with the vibrant, joyful essence reminiscent of Buddha’s joyful spirit.

Just yesterday, I strolled through Whole Foods, sporting a goofy grin while sharing dad jokes with the butcher. Dedicating 10 days to reset and reconnect with my true self was one of the best choices I've made in years. It helped me rediscover "Reggae Greg," my more relaxed and playful alter ego.

If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed or burned out, consider taking a break! Allocate a few days—preferably at least three more than you’re comfortable with—to do absolutely nothing work-related. By easing up on yourself, you may find that productivity increases in unexpected ways.

Wishing you a fantastic week! 😊

Quote of the week 📜

"I often forget how vital it is to have days of rest, to allow ourselves the freedom not to produce anything, even a few lines in a journal. A day without pushing oneself can seem wasted or sinful, but sometimes, the best gift for our psyche is to let it simply be, to drift in the soft light of a room." — May Sarton

What I’m currently reading 📖

While lounging in a hammock in Nicaragua, I immersed myself in Hermann Hesse's classic, "Siddartha." This brief yet profound book resonated deeply with me and is a must-read for anyone exploring the meaning of life. I also delved into the second book of the Red Rising trilogy, which has quickly become one of my favorite sci-fi series.

Here's a link to the first book in the series.

What I’m listening to 🎧

I recently tuned into a captivating discussion between Jordan Peterson and Robert Greene about embracing our darker aspects. Previously, I resisted Greene’s work, but this interview shed light on his perspective and was quite enlightening.
