Finding Freedom from Negativity: A Path to Spiritual Recovery

Chapter 1: Understanding Fear and Its Impact
The common thread among Covid, goblins, ghosts, and witches is their ability to instill fear in many individuals. Fear is frequently referenced in the Big Book, associated with various character flaws and shortcomings, establishing it as a significant barrier to achieving and maintaining sobriety.
I no longer harbor thoughts of death, nor do I waste my sobriety contemplating how or when I might die. The fears that once haunted me, including those surrounding Covid and mythical entities, have lost their grip on my psyche.
Through my journey, I learned that the antidote to fear is faith. Instead of succumbing to anxiety, I have focused on nurturing my faith.
“Dwelling on negative thoughts can deeply harm one’s spirit.”
Section 1.1: The Influence of Media on Our Mindset
The media thrives on reporting negativity, often sensationalizing events to attract viewers. This relentless focus on doom and gloom can lead to an unhealthy cycle of worry and despair. I realized that immersing myself in this negativity only compounded my own feelings of hopelessness, leading to perilous thoughts.
The reality is that every idea begins with a thought. Whether it is positive or negative, it has the potential to expand. When I closely followed news broadcasts or read the paper, I found myself overwhelmed by negativity.
For years, this negative mindset held me back. In sobriety, I discovered that if I dedicated myself to the recovery program, I could achieve a state of happiness, joy, and freedom.
Section 1.2: The Shift to Positivity
I made the conscious decision to stop watching the news. Instead, I would occasionally skim headlines to stay informed without becoming consumed by the constant barrage of negative information.
Almost instantly, this choice significantly enhanced my happiness and personal freedom. The Serenity Prayer reminds us to focus on what we can change and to recognize the difference between what we can and cannot control.
Chapter 2: Embracing Positive Change
I can only change myself, and I refuse to be dragged down by the miseries of others. While I am always willing to assist those in need, I will not descend into negativity alongside them.
As Emmet Fox wisely said, “You must not under any pretense allow your mind to dwell on any thought that is not positive, constructive, optimistic, or kind.”
This video showcases the joy and creativity of making magical swirling potions, serving as a reminder of the positive and enchanting aspects of life.
So, how do we tackle negativity in our lives? The answer lies in replacing negative thoughts with positive ones, ensuring we remain so engaged that we don’t have time to dwell on the negative.
It may be simple, but it isn’t always easy. However, taking that first step will lead to a profound sense of improvement. Thank you, God.
