This idea quickly took hold of me, and the more I continued running, the more I convinced myself to take on this challenge.

The thought of giving up became so unbearable that it motivated me to push through the entire distance. It was a scorching summer day, I had no water, and eventually, my legs and feet were in agony. Yet, I persevered and completed the run, clocking in over 2 hours and covering 21 kilometers. However, that single experience was not the ultimate test. The real challenge lies in aligning your mindset with your goals every single day. This part of your brain prefers complacency, but that’s not your true essence.

You are the part that envisions your future self across different timelines, striving to transcend momentary discomfort in pursuit of significant accomplishments. If you fail to manage your lizard brain, you risk adopting a mindset akin to that of a toddler, where immediate desires outweigh future consequences. Uncontrolled, the lizard brain leads you to make choices that will complicate the lives of your future selves, and the longer you delay discipline, the steeper the price you pay.

To combat the lizard brain effectively, it’s crucial to understand its triggers. Surprisingly, poor mental health and an inflated ego fuel it. Let me clarify: whether you are beginning a new habit or have stumbled after making progress, comparing yourself to an idealized version of yourself or to others is counterproductive.

The plans you set often come with unrealistic expectations, which can lead to a collapse under pressure, ultimately causing your future selves to suffer from feelings of inadequacy without any tangible achievements. This cycle is perpetuated by an ego that lacks the humility and patience for gradual improvement. Remember, discipline is essential. As I mentioned earlier, you can become unstoppable by conquering your ego and practicing patience—you can do it!
