Embracing 50: A Journey of Growth and Transformation

Chapter 1: Welcome to My Journey
Welcome to my 50 for 50 adventure, a thoughtful exploration of intentional living and significant experiences as I approach my 50th birthday. Here we are at Week Three of this journey. While I’m technically 48 and a half, I’m a planner at heart, so I’ve already embarked on this challenge.
Around the time I turned 40, I had a revelation. Looking at other moms, colleagues, and friends, I realized I didn’t want to start fresh at 50. Instead, I wished to embrace my life fully at that age and have a sense of momentum behind me!
It wasn't that anything was imminent; it was more about awakening to the need for a proactive approach. This realization prompted me to leave my corporate career, despite being the main financial provider, and dive into deeper motherhood, creative pursuits, and ultimately, entrepreneurship.
On paper, the timing may not have seemed ideal, but in practice, it fell perfectly into place. If you’re a parent, you understand how swiftly the initial decade goes by. It can feel like a whirlwind filled with milestones and magic that can sometimes slip away like sand through fingers. Just as I began to find my footing, the next chapter of our lives unfolded.
Now, I find myself reclaiming some space in my life, navigating new challenges and opportunities, while watching my little ones grow up and planning our future steps together.
In case you missed my introductory post about this challenge, I’m committed to engaging in a variety of activities at least 50 times or partaking in single experiences that yield 50-fold benefits. These weekly updates serve as a reflection of my journey.
Note: This isn't a bucket list. This challenge focuses on personal growth, cherishing this season of life, strengthening family connections, and laying the groundwork for our future.

50 X Goals:
#49: Let’s discuss business. In 2024, I plan to revamp my website with a focus on SEO and blogging to better express my expertise and connect with more clients. Additionally, I’m considering launching a membership program for clients who are a perfect match for my services but may not be ready for one-on-one work yet.
50 Trips:
#49 Follow-up: I have finalized arrangements for our trip to Universal Studios Hollywood, including tickets, lodging, and car rental.
In my quest for travel insights, I participate in several Facebook travel groups. Recently, a woman shared her concerns about spending $10k on a Disney trip, seeking opinions on whether it would be worth it. The responses were varied and insightful.
Her Query:
"Has anyone ever spent a significant amount on a Disney trip and wished they had chosen a different vacation instead? I’m starting to feel uncertain about our upcoming trip. Is it truly as magical as advertised, or would we enjoy a different destination more?"
My Response:
"Ultimately, it depends on your priorities and budget. For a vacation costing that much, I’d choose Europe or Australia. For theme parks, we aim for $2-3k, using points whenever possible."
I often reflect on how each season of life has its magic. While our kids have moved past Disney, they now enjoy Universal, with Harry Potter being a family favorite. Yet, there’s a bittersweet aspect to this transition, as much of parenting often is. One of the toughest challenges is balancing time and finances.
50 New Recipes:
#40: Air Fryer Butternut Squash - Although the kids wouldn’t try it, I enjoy preparing eggplant this way regularly.
#39: Three-Ingredient Tomato Sauce - Admittedly, I had never made my own tomato sauce. With an abundance of ripe tomatoes, it was the perfect opportunity. We paired it with store-bought pasta and a lovely aged cheese from Italy.
#38: Sautéed Mushrooms - This recipe was delightful, enhanced by an unexpected touch of soy sauce.
50 New Books:
#47 Follow-up: The Art of the Good Life by Rolf Dobelli - No progress, as it auto-returned at 16% completed.
#46 Follow-up: The Last List of Mabel Beaumont by Laura Pearson - I enjoyed it, with a few genuinely funny moments, but it wasn’t unputdownable — a solid 3.9 stars.
#45: Remarkably Bright Creatures - Currently at 41% and loving it. Here’s a taste of the beginning:
