Chapter 1: The Allure of Metrics

We all appreciate views, accolades, and a growing follower base. The potential to earn from our writing is enticing, isn’t it? However, amidst this pursuit, a nagging concern often lingers in our minds. Is this focus on metrics the right approach?

Perhaps it is, as writing for views, income, and followers seems reasonable. But is that the only reason behind our writing endeavors?

Reflecting on my own experience as someone who cannot participate in the Medium Partner Program, I find myself in a unique position. I know that financial gain from my Medium articles is unlikely, and my piece might not attract substantial views. So, why do I continue to write?

Let me share my perspective. There exists a realm beyond mere views—a world filled with experiences, learning, and inspiration. This is the space I explore, and it fuels my passion for writing.

What does this world encompass?

• A journey of new experiences
• An opportunity for continuous learning
• A source of inspiration
• The joy of the writing process itself
• A chance to write without the burden of metrics
• A path toward self-improvement
• The freedom to express what truly resonates with me

This is what drives me to write every day on Medium. I hold onto the belief that one day, my articles will garner more views. But why stress over metrics now?

In the beginning, my articles may seem insignificant, but they are stepping stones to something greater. Embracing the process is where the real magic lies, bringing immense satisfaction and motivation.

When you start to relish the journey, the lack of views or applause can no longer deter your spirit.

If you’re new to writing or returning after a hiatus, I encourage you to write freely, without the anxiety of metrics. Share your work on Medium, and keep producing content consistently.
